Emerging in 1981 in the cradle of the national textile industry (Serzedelo – Riba de Ave), and founded by Crispim Abreu and Virgínia Abreu respectively, dedicated since that time and until today to the production, preparation and manufac- ture of knitwear. Throughout 41 years of activity, the management has successfully carried out seve-ral changes at the organizational level in different areas of the company. The purpose was to maximize the productivitylevels, never neglecting the main goal – the quality of the final product.
During its 41 years of activity, the man- agement has successfully made various alterations at an organisational level in the various areas of the company, with a view to maximising productivity levels, without ever neglecting the fundamental principle – the quality of the end product and in this regard the company is certi- fied by the ecological standard ÖKO-Tex Standard 100 and GOTS.The continuous investments soon became the foundation of the company’s success: a highly specialized in the technological and human resources, capable of promptly responding to the daily challenges.
These ongoing commitments have unmistakably become the critical success factors of the company: a highly specialised structure both in terms of its techno- logical resources and its human resources and yet flexible, being able to respond speedily to the various challenges placed before it every day, both in terms of production volume and in terms of the tech- nical specifications of the products.
Crispim Abreu & Ca Lda. along with POLO - Indústrias de Vestuário Lda., integrated in the secondary sector (production/processing activity), with 300 employees, 65% of them with the company for more than 15 years, endowed with various specialist fields and recognised skills.
The company’s competitiveness is based on a vertical structure. The processes developed internally stretch from fashion design to knitting, dry cleaning and finishing and subsequent manufacture. This vertical structure allows the company to respond to its clients speedily, flexibly and at competitive prices.

WHAT WE DO
Here at Crispim Abreu & Ca Lda. we develop and produce a vast range of products with very diverse qualities of circular knitwear. The production activity is basically dedicated to garments in 3 main sectors: knitwear and home textiles. In clothing there is a great diversity of items for men, women and children. As far as home textiles is concerned, there is particular focus on the production of high-quality knitted polar fleece blankets and 100% cotton jersey knit bedding sets.
Innovations and discovery are incentivised and openly shared at our company to contribute to changing our processes and systems. Crispim Abreu & Ca Lda. has made a clear commitment to culture which incentivises the enterprising spirit, seeking to transform ideas and technologies into innovative products and services. The strategic context in which innovation activities are carried out is naturally aligned and leveraged with diversified knowledge and scientific networks, so as to make more objective those activities which are capable of contributing to increased competitiveness and value creation through the implementation of processes and innovation.
The approach to the innovation policy boosted the company’s participation in R&D projects, in particular: Goblue – Biotechnology Applied to Textile Processing Project Partners: - Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Higher School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University); - CITEVE (Technological Centre for the Textile and Clothing Industries of Portugal); - Bayer; - Orfama. 2nd – Dermis – Textile technology in the service of health: functional textiles as a form of immunological disease prevention and control (atopic dermatitis).
